INVITATION TO THE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE

The Faculty of Social Sciences, the Department of Adult Pedagogy and Sociology of Education, the Andragogy Laboratory invite you to the international conference: GLOBALISATION – CONFLICT – CRISIS. Social Reminiscences.

9 November 2023, 10.30 am, hybrid format (Auditorium, Zoom)

The process of globalisation is presented and evaluated in a broad perspective. For, on the one hand, the effects of the globalisation process are evident in the reduction of poverty levels, enable faster economic development, increase life expectancy, favour the opening of borders, the democratisation of societies, the development of science and innovation, but on the other hand, they entail unsustainable development. Not all people are beneficiaries of rising living standards; transnational corporations are taking over, traditional cultures and their languages or faiths are becoming uncompetitive and often disappearing, the drain of workers is leaving some areas barren and unemployment is rising in many sectors. The number of those economically, socially excluded or simply lost in this fragmented and unpredictable world seems to be growing. For the first time in history, the future is an enigma, which fundamentally hinders the articulation of pedagogical indications.
Conflict becomes an immanent characteristic of the contemporary post-postmodern world. The word ‘crisis’ is conjugated in all sorts of ways. We have an ecological crisis, a nuclear threat, a crisis of power, of the family, of religiosity, of the state, of traditional values, of institutions, of health, and it is more difficult to identify areas unaffected by the crisis than free from it. At the same time, however, there is a growing conviction of the subjectivity and causal power of human beings, generating opportunities for sustainable development. The conference addresses social issues, including mainly sociological and pedagogical issues, trying to take into account the perspective of the problem categories indicated above.
