Foreign students
In accordance with Article 323. 1. of the Act of 20 July 2018 The Law on Higher Education and Science (Journal of Laws from 2018, item 1668) foreigners can undertake and take up studies, education in doctoral schools, postgraduate studies, specialized education and other forms of education and participate in conducting scientific activities or in conducting education, on the basis of:
- international agreements, on the terms specified in these agreements;
- agreements concluded with foreign entities by universities, on the terms specified in these agreements;
- the decision of the Minister;
- the decision of the Director of National Agency of Academic Exchange in relation to its scholarship holders;
- the decision of the Director of the National Science Centre of Poland to grant funds for the implementation of basic research in the form of a research project, internship or scholarship, qualified for funding through a competition;
- the administrative decision of the Rector, the Director of the Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences, the director of the research institute or the director of the international institute.
Pursuant to Article 79. 1. point 5 of the Act Christian Theological Academy in Warsaw may charge fees for educational services related to the education of foreigners in full-time studies in Polish. The fees referred to in point (5) of Article 79(1) shall not be charged to:
- a foreigner – a citizen of a Member State of the European Union, the Swiss Confederation or a Member State of the European Free Trade Agreement (EFTA) – a party to the Agreement on the European Economic Area and members of their families living in the territory of the Republic of Poland;
- a foreigner who has been granted a permanent residence permit or a long-term resident of the European Union;
- a foreigner who has been granted a temporary residence permit in connection with the circumstances referred to in Article 159 (1) or Article 186(1)(3) or (4) of the Act of 12 December 2013 on foreigners (Journal of Laws from 2017 items 2206 and 2282 and from 2018 items 107, 138 and 771);
- a foreigner who has a refugee status granted in the Republic of Poland or who benefits from temporary protection or subsidiary protection in the territory of the Republic of Poland;
- a foreigner – a holder of a certificate certifying knowledge of Polish as a foreign language in question
in Article 11a(2) of the Act of 7 October 1999 on the Polish language (Journal of Laws from 2018, item 931), at least language proficiency level C1;
- a holder of the Pole’s Card or the person who has been issued a decision on the determination of Polish origin;
- a foreigner who is a spouse, a preliminary or a descendant of a citizen of the Republic of Poland, living in the territory of the Republic of Poland.
Foreigners with a Polish maturity certificate or a legalized or apostille certificate or another document obtained abroad, entitling them to apply for admission to university studies of any type in the country, may apply for admission to the first degree or uniform master’s degree studies, in which system the issuing institution has operated, recognized, in accordance with the rules or under international agreements, as equivalent to the relevant Polish certificate of maturity
Candidates who hold a diploma of first higher education degree in Poland or a legalized or apostille diploma or other document of completion of a university abroad, entitling them to take up a second higher education degree studies in the country in which it was issued, may apply for admission to the second degree studies, recognized, in accordance with the regulations or on the basis of an international agreement, as equivalent to the relevant Polish diploma of first degree studies.
Foreigners may undertake studies if:
- have a visa or residence card or other document entitling them to stay in the territory of Poland,
- have an insurance policy in case of illness or accident for the period of education in Poland or the European Health Insurance Card or take insurance in the National Health Fund immediately after the start of education.
